The state Congress has reportedly dropped the idea to move a no-confidence motion against the government at the ongoing winter session in Karnataka legislature.
According to party sources, the decision of not moving a no-confidence motion was taken at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting prior to the session.
The CLP meeting chaired by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah, was attended by including KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar, deputy CLP leader T B Jayachandra, former ministers Ramalinga Reddy, Quamarul Islam and others.
According to sources, majority of the Congress MLAs who spoke on the issue have reportedly advised against moving the no- confidence motion as the BJP government which is tottering because of its serious infighting may fall on its own weight.
“Any attempt to pull down the government would make the corrupt BJP the martyr and it may hurt the party’s prospects,” a few legislators reportedly said at the meeting. Sources also told Express that the central party leaders have also advised the CLP leader not to move any no-confidence motion as the cloud of uncertainty is already building up ahead of the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP)’s convention in Haveri on December 9.
After the meeting, Siddaramaiah told reporters that the meeting remained inconclusive as many MLAs did not turn up. “The continued CLP meeting would be held on(Thursday),” he added.
