MYSORE: They sweated it out to capture forest brigand Veerappan; it looks like they may break into a sweat again, this time for their involvement in fraud.

Some cops of the Special Task Force part of the operation who were rewarded with sites have landed in hot water after it came to light that government letters ordering the Mysore Urban Development Authority to grant them fake sites.

The government, after sitting on their rewards for years together, announced sites to 756 policemen based on recommendations of DGP, home and urban development departments. Urban development department recommended names of beneficiary policemen to its respective urban development authorities.

MUDA Commissioner Betsur Math said the urban development department has written to the Home Ministry on the forgery. “It is upto the Home Department to take action.”
