Errors in Gulbarga WDD revealed

GULBARGA: A two-member team of Watershed Development Department (WDD) which inspected the works taken up by WDD of Gulbarga district during 2010-11 and 2011-12 has found several discrepancies among the WDD officials in Gulbarga.

The team comprising Joint Agriculture Director of Watershed Development Department Bangalore P V Veeraraju (who is also the nodal officer of the district) and Assistant Agriculture Director of Watershed Development Training Institute Mysore L G Karibasavaiah conducted an inspection from January 16 to 18 on the progress of the works taken by WDD Gulbarga district for the years 2010-11 and 2011-12.

The team inspected the progress of Gulbarga, Afzalpur and Aland taluks of the district. The progress of these areas did not tally with each other and there were many differences. No efforts have been made at the district level for setting these discrepancies right.

As there is no proper coordination between agriculture, horticulture and forest department of the WDD, the goals of the WDD were not achieved, senior officers of the team stated in their report.

12 Officials Suspended

The state government has suspended 12 officials of Watershed Development Department of Gulbarga district in the wake of several discrepancies in the implementation of watershed works. As per a government order dated January 30, 2012 which was served to the suspended officials on Wednesday, the order was based on a report submitted by a team of following inspection of the watershed works. It was stated in the order that a departmental inquiry would continue on them. They were asked not to leave the headquarters without prior permission.
