HUBLI: Hubli Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu defended Karnataka Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah’s decision to disqualify 16 MLAs. He said at Gadag that the charges made by the Opposition and the independents were unjustified as the Karnataka High Court had upheld his decision.

“The Supreme Court ruling against the HC’s decision cannot be the basis for seeking the Speaker’s resignation, there is no need for him to quit,” he stated.

In the wake of the SC cancelling all 122 2G Spectrum licences, Naidu has demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Telecommunications Minister Kapil Sibal.

Addressing the media on Thursday, he said the two ministers who justified the government’s stand in the issue should either resign voluntarily or PM Manmohan Singh should drop them from his Cabinet. Naidu charged the UPA government of being mired in corruption. “BJP is inclined to retrieve black money in foreign banks. Despite making tall promises, the PM failed on this count in three months,” he observed.
