BANGALORE: Anticipating snap polls to the state Assembly, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda launched a state-wide campaign, “Janapara Janata Yatra”, after offering pooja in the Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple in Bangalore on Friday. Gowda will cover the yatra in a custom-built vehicle named “Jayavahini”, which will cover all 30 districts of the state.

The campaign would aim to galvanise the party cadre, highlight the failures of the BJP government and project itself as an alternative to both the BJP and Congress.

“This campaign will culminate only in the ouster of the BJP government and installation of JD(S) regime. The launch of our campaign has started the countdown for the end of the BJP regime,” Deve Gowda addressed thousands of party workers who had gathered outside the temple.

While Gowda’s eldest son H D Revanna was present when the campaign was launched, his other son, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy was conspicuous by his absence.

Party working president P G R Sindhia said Kumaraswamy will join the yatra in Hanur, where the leaders will address a public meeting. Coming down heavily on the BJP government, Gowda said the state had not seen a regime as bad as the present one.

“The entire administrative machinery has come to a halt due to internal squabbles; the BJP has ushered in usage of excess money in politics which will have a long-term negative effect,” the former prime minister added.

Calling upon party workers to oust the BJP-led state government, Gowda said: “The days of being docile are over... JD (S) is the only authentic voice of rural India. People are ready to bless when the opportunity comes.”

Cine actress Pooja Gandhi, who had recently joined the party, and Gowda’s wife Chennamma were present.
