BANGALORE: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Motamma on Friday denied blaming Saritha, a research scholar of the University of Mysore (UoM), for being involved in a sexual harassment scandal.

Expressing sympathy for Sarita, who was allegedly harassed sexually by her research guide, Professor Shivabasavaiah, Motamma addressed the media here on Friday that she never found fault with Sarita, though the latter hurled accusations against her of spoiling her  reputation in the society.

Advocating stringent action, including sending the professor to jail, Motamma also demanded the government to fast-track all the 26 cases of sexual harassment reported in the UoM.

Motamma  suspected that Saritha may have been instigated by organisations such as the Bajrang Dal or ABVP to make such allegations against her. The Leader of Opposition in the Council also released copies of her speech about Sarita’s incident made in the Council while participating in a debate on the matter.
