BANGALORE: The state government on Saturday found itself in a fix with the newly-sworn Upa Lokayukta Justice Chandrashekaraiah categorically refusing to resign from the post. “Why should I resign? There is no need to do so because my appointment as Upa Lokayukta is as per the Constitutional norms and procedure,” he said in an interactionwith the Media on Saturday.

Justice Chandrashekaraiah was responding to queries about the letter written by High Court Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen to  Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda. Sen expressed his displeasure that as per the Lokayukta Act, he was not consulted before the appointment of the Upa Lokayukta. Sen urged the government to recall the Upa Lokayuta.

The Upa Lokayukta said, “The state government has followed all due procedures of consulting the Speaker of the Assembly, Chairman of the Council and Leader of the Opposition. Recommendation of my name has been approved by the Governor. I will not resign from the post as it is not required.”
