BIJAPUR: In a shocking incident, Bijapur District Youth Congress president Asif Inamdar’s left hand was chopped off by three unidentified assailants in broad daylight near Bagalkot Cross here on Wednesday.

According to police, the incident occurred when Inamdar (29) came to a tea stall near Central busstand at around 1 pm. ASP Trasgar told Express that three unknown persons came in a car and attacked Inamdar. The assailants chopped off Inamdar’s left hand with a sharp-edged weapon and fled before the traffic police stationed in the area could catch them. Inamdar was immediately rushed to Solapur Hospital.

Inamdar was elected as District Youth Congress president recently. The election was marred by a firing incident and the police now suspect a link between the firing and this attack. Gandhi Chowk police have  registered a case and investigation is on.
