BANGALORE: The state government has decided to seek as many as three lakh houses under the Union government’s Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), a new housing scheme for slum dwellers and the urban poor. The scheme will be implemented from June 2012.

Informing this to media persons here on Monday, Housing Minister V Somanna said that the state government was also making serious efforts to include as many taluks as possible under the RAY so that the state government could get maximum benefits.

“We want to implement this scheme at least in 120 taluks,” the minister added.

Under the RAY, the Central government will provide Rs 3 lakh to each house besides providing funds for basic amenities.
