BANGALORE: The state government has decided to implement a new food pattern for Anganwadi children keeping in mind the varying food habits in different parts of the state. The new food pattern will start from January 17 in Gadag district.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Women and Child Welfare Minister C C Patil said that the department was also mulling to de centralise the supply system of food to Anganwadis.

At present, the food packets are being supplied to all Anganwadis in the state by a Chennai-based firm. “Since there are complaints about the quality of the food being supplied by the firm, we have taken a decision to do away with the existing system,” the minister added.

The minister said, around 61,000 malnourished children in the state.

Welcoming concerns expressed by the PM over the issue of malnutrition, Patil urged the Centre to evolve a comprehensive scheme to address the problem.
