KARWAR: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced here on Thursday that a new programme ‘Vikasana’ will be introduced from January 30 to create greater confidence among second year PU students in the state to face annual examinations and CET exam.

Under the programme, students appearing for these examinations and tests will be given special coaching through Doordarshan channel. Subjects including English, economics, political science, history and commerce will be covered from 7 am to 7.45 am everyday while science subjects will be dealt with for two hours from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm.

Experts and experienced teachers will clear all doubts of students on these subjects during these sessions. Students could send their doubts and questions through e-mail as well, he informed. The e-mail address will be intimated to respective PU colleges, he addedThe 42-day programme will end on March 11.

Kageri said that he will talk to Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje requesting her to ensure uninterrupted power supply while the coaching sessions are broadcast. He appealed to students to take advantage of this unique scheme.

Kageri also assured that the Karavali Utsav, the annual cultural festival on Karwar Beach which has been held for the last three years, will be organised in April this year. Although the preliminary meetings were held for the festival in February, the transfer of the Deputy Commissioner brought the process to a halt, minister Kageri admitted.

He further said that he had directed officials concerned in the district to accelerate development activities so that the funds allotted for them were fully utilised before the end of this financial year.
