MADIKERI: An orphaned elephant calf Shiva, which was the centre of attraction for tourists and public near Aanekad, is no more.
Shiva died on Monday night due to a brief illness, sources in the Forest Department told Express.
The elephant calf fell ill due to food poisoning and a team of doctors from Mysore were rushed in to treat it.
The postmortem of the calf was performed by Dr Umashanker and cremated in Aanekad Forest, said Regional Forest Officer Acchappa.
Deputy Conservator of Forests K S Anand visited the spot.
