CHIKMAGALUR: JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda called upon the party workers to take the Udupi-Chikmagalur LS bypoll as a challenge to answer the Congress and BJP which have tried to ridicule the party.

At a party workers’ meet here on Thursday, he said the party workers have the responsibility of showing their strength by give a befitting reply to our critics.

Stating that the people of the region favoured the JD(S), Gowda asserted that the strength of the party should be felt during the elections to rubbish the criticism that JD(S) was confined to a few pockets. People are fed up with the wrong economic policies of the Union Government and voted out national parties to bring regional parties to power, he said, adding this is evident from the results of the recent elections in five states.

He repudiated the Congress’ allegation that JD(S) had made a secret pact with the BJP to get Muslim votes. Leaders P G R Sindhia, Cheluvarayaswamy and District JD(S) president H H Devaraj were present.
