SHIMOGA: To protest against the government’s indifference towards the farmers and organic farming, the Purushottama Rao Agriculture Research Foundation of Thirthahalli has decided to reject the ‘Savayava Krishi Rathna Award’ announced to Krishirishi Purushottama Rao and a financial aid of `10 lakh by the government.

Foundation president M S Subbrao wrote a letter to the CM stating the reasons and siad that the foundation thought that the government would respect its decision of becoming self reliant in its financial resources. Hence the Foundation has decided to reject the financial assistance by the government.

The government formed the Organic Farming Mission in 2008 to attract farmers towards organic farming. Neither the mission nor the government has encouraged farmers under the mission’s schemes.
