BANGALORE:  Nearly 53 candidates were debarred from appearing for the Economics and Geology papers of the II PUC final examinations on Monday.

The ongoing examinations recorded the highest number of instances of malpractice.

According to a release by the Department of Pre-university Education, instances of malpractices were reported in 11 districts. Bijapur continued to top the list with 26 cases, while Gulbarga had six cases, Dharwad had four, Belgaum, Bagalkote, Bidar and Ramanagara had three each, Chikkaballapur had two cases, and Davangere, Raichur and Yadgir had one each.  “I am trying my best to counter the menace. There is only so much that officials can do when students hide notes in socks and shirt collars. We are debarring students as and when we catch them cheating,” said Deputy Director of Pre-university Education of Bijapur, K M Joura. She expected things to improve in the remaining part of the exam as the number of debars impacted students and parents alike.
