SHIMOGA: Both the BJP and Congress have become villains with no regard for the people and if they do not realise this, there is no future for the state, said former chief minister and JDS state president H D Kumaraswamy. He told reporters after offering pooja at Sri Kalabairaveshwara Temple on Sunday that the BJP government has failed to take any pro-farmers decision to help the farmer community in distress.

From decades, the Congress has been appeasing the minorities to create vote banks, but the minorities should not allow themselves to be trapped by the appeasing politics, he added.

Accusing that both the Union and state budgets were antifarmers, he said though the state government had presented over one lakh crore budget, it has failed to reserve at least Rs 2,000 crore to rescue the farmers in the state.

"When I was the CM, Rs 25,000 compensation per hectre was given to sugarcane growers and farmers’ loans were waived," he claimed.

Advising the BJP ministers to work honestly, he said the administrative machinery has stuck as the factions of both the Chief Minister and the former chief minister are busy in appealing to the party high command.

“People are suffering due to drought and other problems but no minister, government or the BJP party is concerned about them,” he added.
