BELGAUM: As many as six police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were injured after they were allegedly manhandled by Defence personnel while tackling a violent situation at a Jatra at Ankale village in Hukkeri taluk on Sunday.

The police arrested the three accused — Sachin Mokashi and Gopal Magdhum, both defence officials, and Sanjay Magdhum, an ex-serviceman.

According to police sources, PSI Prabhu Gangenhalli along with his team were deputed for bandobast at Shri Ankallamma Devi Jatra. A few miscreants in an intoxicated state started pelting stones.

The police tried to bring the situation under control and finally resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The police behaviour irked a few people, including the three accused, who allegedly targeted the police.

Hukkeri police have registered a case.
