The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the state government on the bail application of Abdul Nasser Madani, one of the prime accused in 2008 Bangalore serial bomb blasts case.
Hearing the petition, Justice H N Nagamohan Das directed the superintendent of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, where Madani has been lodged since his arrest in August 2010, to submit a report about his health by October 3 and adjourned the case for further hearing.
During the hearing, the government submitted that it had been doing its duty and medicinal help was being provided according to the Supreme Court directions. “We have already spent `15 lakh for the medical purpose of Madani,” the government counsel said.
Madani’s counsel claimed that he had already lost vision in his right eye and has only 30 per cent vision in the left eye. “Ever since, he was arrested and remanded in judicial custody, no proper medical treatment was given to him for the any of these ailments despite court directions,” he said.
The SC had rejected Madani’s bail plea directing state government to provide medical treatment to Madani in Bangalore.
Kolar CMC told to evict illegal land owner
Karnataka High Court on Wednesday rapped a person who had occupied government land illegally for over 15 years and approached the court, challenging the eviction order by the Kolar City Municipal Council.
The HC found lapses on the part of the petitioner, penalised him and directed the CMC to initiate steps to evict him from the plot after collecting the penalty.
Petitioner Mohammad Hamid Khan, of Phoodshah Mohalla in Kolar, had contended that he has been staying in the 1,500 sq ft plot for the past 15 years. He had urged the CMC to register the land in his name but when they failed to do so he sought directions from HC.
Justice Ram Mohan Reddy asked the petitioner whether he had paid any money as a rent or lease and Khan’s counsel replied in negative.
Justice Reddy imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the petitioner and directed officials to impose a fine and evict him from the land.
