Sonia, Rahul invited to campaign in Karnataka

The election campaign committee of the KPCC which met here on Wednesday, decided to appeal to party supremo Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to campaign for the party candidates.

Campaign committee president and former chairman of the state Legislative Council Veeranna Mathikatti said that the committee has also decided to invite chief ministers from the neighbouring states, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to help in ensuring the victory of the party candidates.

Mathikatti said that Union ministers, including Chiranjeevi, NTR’s daughter Purandeshwari and P Chidambaram among others would campaign for the party. “Apart from the achievements of the previous Congress governments in the state, the party would also highlight the performances of the Congress-led UPA government during the campaign trail, besides presenting the failure of BJP government on all fronts,” he said.

Co-chairman of the committee and former minister D K Shivakumar said that the party had also decided to bring in some film celebrities, including Ambareesh, Darshan, Ramya and Bhavana for the campaign.

He also hinted at deploying state-of-the-art information technology and social network platforms to reach out to the voters.
