JD(S) Leaders Off to Goa to 'End Dispute'

Among those not happy with the way the party is run are Zameer Ahmed, N Cheluvarayaswamy, Puttanna, and H C Balakrishna

In an effort to quell the simmering discontent in his party, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly H D Kumaraswamy has taken all its leaders on a weekend outing to Goa.

Soon after the winter session of the legislature was adjourned sine die, JD(S) legislators, barring a few like former minister H D Revanna, YSV Datta and others, packed their bags to Goa.

Sources said the two-day outing at a resort would give leaders time to thrash out their differences. Among those not happy with the way the party is run are former ministers Zameer Ahmed Khan and N Cheluvarayaswamy, former deputy chairman of the Legislative Council Puttanna, and senior legislator H C Balakrishna. They had distanced themselves from party activities and remained in their constituencies.

“There are some misunderstandings among us. This weekend outing will help us overcome them and focus on the Lok Sabha polls,” a leader told Express.

In recent weeks, Khan had even made a serious bid to join the Congress. Khan was upset as he had not been considered for the post of Opposition whip.

Another senior leader said the Goa trip would help them relax after the 10-day Assembly session. “No political significance should be attached to the weekend outing,” he said.
