MLAs Pay Tributes to Nelson Mandela

The State Legislative paid rich tributes to former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela who died on Friday.

The State Legislative paid rich tributes to former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela who died on Friday.

As soon as the Assembly began, Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa moved an obituary reference to condole the death.

Agriculture Minister Krishna Byregowda said Mandela, who fought against apartheid, got inspiration from the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. Mandela was given Bharat Ratna  in recognition of his services to the oppressed classes”.

Leader of the Opposition H D Kumaraswamy said Mandela took up the cause of the blacks, and spent 27 years in jail. “He played an important role to install a democratic government in his country”.

BJP Floor Leader Jagadish Shettar said it was a coincidence that Mandela died on the day when the whole country was observing the 58th death anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and voice of the oppressed classes.

Former speaker K R Ramesh Kumar said the people of India would always remember Mandela for his fight against injustice.
