The Mysore Royal family does not compromise on holding rituals or following the traditions which have been continuing for centuries. Palace priest M G Narashimachar had to look into ‘shamal’ in Palace archives on Tuesday evening to decide on the rituals and traditions to be followed during the funeral procession.

The palace officials who had maintained records on expenses, conducting ceremonies, weddings and funerals have preserved it for centuries across generations of the royal family. As per the tradition, they had summoned court officials and others to accompany the funeral procession in traditional attire.

Funeral Tune

Srikantadutta Narashimaraja Wadiyar was a music lover. ‘Death Mark Raja’ composed and tuned by band-master Kumar was performed on the occasion. This is played by the orchestra only during the funeral procession of the kings of the Mysore Royal family. The Mysore Wadiyar’s had a special love for the orchestra as they wanted them to perform during the visit of state guests, birthday parties and parties held at the Government House, Mysore Palace and Jagan Mohan Palace.
