Forum opposes Lokayukta recommendation

The Advocate Association Bangalore (AAB) strongly opposed the government’s recommendation of appointing Retired High Court Judge Justice Y Bhaskar Rao as Lokayukta.

AAB president K N Subba Reddy told Express that Justice Rao had obtained a site from BDA. He had also obtained another site from the Karnataka Judicial Employees House Building Cooperative Society at Judicial Layout. He also favoured Malya Hospital by ordering a parking place for it in government land. He had even encroached upon the road in Judicial Layout beside his site which was later given up after Justice H N Narayana told him to leave the place for the road, he alleged. Subba Reddy said that at 75, Justice Rao is too old for the post. He is from Andhra Pradesh and does not know Kannada. Most documents and complaints are filed in Kannada before the Lokayukta. There are a lot of retired judges in Karnataka and the state government can recommend their names.

There is also no permanent Chief Justice for the High Court. So, there would not be an effective consultation.

The state government has to wait till a permanent Chief Justice is appointed to the High Court, he added.

He further said that the Chief Minister and the Governor do not know of all these. AAB will meet both and will request the Chief Minister and Governor not to appoint him Lokayukta.
