14 get life term for murder

The first fast track court here on Friday sentenced fourteen people, including two students, to life time imprisonment, in connection with the sensational murder of Janata Dal (Secular) councillor Anjini alias Batawadi Anjini.

The convicts are: Rowdysheeter Balaji alias Kali, Kumar, Abhishek, Santhosh, Kiran alias Krishnamurthi, Ganesh alias Gani, Melanahalli Raju alias Devaraju, Hemanthkumar alias Hemanth, Vinay alias Vini (a diploma student), Muthu alias Mrithyunjaya, Mahesh alias Kishore alias Putti, Maraluru Dinne Raghu, Teju alias Tejas (a BBM student) and Manjunatha alias Manja. Judge U M Adiga, while pronouncing the sentence, also imposed a penalty of `16,000 on each of the convicts. Failing which they need to serve one more year in jail.

Out of the penalty amount, `75,000 should be given to the widow of the deceased and the remaining amount will go to the government’s exchequer, informed principal public prosecutor R K Bhat, who had appeared on behalf of the government.

Another accused in the case Boothaiah, younger brother of KJP leader and former councillor Valechandru, has been acquitted due to lack of evidence.
