Krishna favours negotiations

Former external affairs minister and senior Congress leader S M Krishna has favoured all Cauvery riparian states to settle the water dispute through negotiations.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, the Congress leader who also hails from the Cauvery basin,  said that even the Supreme Court had opined in favour of giving priority to drinking water followed by irrigation and other purposes. Krishna also strongly felt the need to convince the Tribunal on this issue. He also sought to fill vacancy of the chairman’s post in the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal which has been lying vacant.
