Pickpockets stole  Rs 13 lakh from ASI Shivaprasad, working at the office of ACP Omkaraiah, in Bangalore, at the KSRTC bus stand here on Saturday afternoon.

The amount belonged to Basavaraju, a manager with the KSFC here who had given it to the ASI to deliver it to Omkaraiah.

When the ASI was boarding the bus, some miscreants took away the bag around 1.45 pm. The distraught ASI informed the police as soon as he realised the theft.

Basavaraju is arranging the marriage of his daughter and wanted to get the gold ornaments made at Navarathna Jewellers in Bangalore.

The ACP, a close relative of Basavaraju, had promised to get the ornaments made at  a reasonable price. “Since the amount was huge, I had sent my ASI to collect it and deliver it safely to me,” Omkaraiah said.

Town police have registered a case.
