Honorary doctorates for 5 women

Karnataka State Women’s University Vice-Chancellor Meena Chandavarkar conferred honorary doctorates to five women, including Chief Justice of Kerala HC Manjula Chellur, at its fourth annual convocation. 

As Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar could not attend the convocation, the V-C said that the honorary doctorate would be presented to her at a special ceremony in Raj Bhavan in the presence of the Governor.  The other recipients include Manjula Chellur, an alumni of Women’s College, Bellary, which is now affiliated to the Women’s University. She is serving as the Chief Justice of Kerala HC. Leeladevi R Prasad hails from Athani in Belgaum district. Journalist   Sandhya Pai was also among the  recipients of the honorary doctorate.

Shalini Rajneesh, an IAS officer has brought about many innovative changes in approaching the poor and needy through government’s schemes. 

Vijayalaxmi Deshmane is a renowned oncologists in the state. She has taken up  several research works in the field of breast cancer. Currently she is working at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore.
