'Karnataka government won't scrap Yashaswini scheme'

Cooperation Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad  said here on Sunday that the government will continue the existing Yashaswini Insurance Scheme without merging it with other two insurance schemes, Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna and Vajpayee Arogya Sree. “As the Yashaswini scheme is very useful, the government will strengthen it further. The government will also ensure more benefits of this scheme to SC/STs as the number of beneficiaries is less,” he said.

He asked 7,000 cooperative societies out of the total 37,000, to be ready for elections as the government will bring amendments to the Cooperative Societies Act before September 25.

“Cooperative societies should conduct a general body meeting and amend bye-laws before the elections which will be conducted by the Cooperative Election Commission in 3 phases. A commissioner and secretary have been appointed for the Commission to conduct the elections and avoid interference of officials of the Cooperative Department,” he said.
