For the first time in the history of the state Legislature, the proceedings of the Assembly session will begin with the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’.
Speaking to news persons here on Sunday, Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa said Yelburga MLA Basavaraj Rayareddy had recommended commencement of the session with Vande Mataram, which has been accepted unopposed by the members.
So far the practice has been to sing Vande Mataram during the beginning of only Council session and there would be no such rendering in the Assembly.
The 10-day legislature session, the second in the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here, will begin on Monday. Both the houses of the legislature will congratulate scientist Prof C N R Rao and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on being awarded Bharat Ratna. Three bills - Karnataka Essential Services Maintenance Bill, Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill and the Karnataka State Women Commission (Amendment) Bill - will be introduced and the Karnataka Land Revenue (Second Amendment) Bill 2012 will be re-considered in the session.
Speaker Scoffs at Rumours
Thimmappa rubbished the rumours about a possible terrorist attack during the legislature session. He said there is no threat from any terror organisation.
When his attention was drawn to the statement of the Brigadier of Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, who had said the Centre had sent an alert about a possible attack on the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha during the winter session, Thimmappa said such statements might have been made for publicity. Thimmappa said the government is planning to build 200 houses for legislators in Belgaum as they had found it hard to find proper accommodation during the previous session in Belgaum.
