Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s favourable hints at forming an alternative political front against the Congress and BJP could not have come at a better time for the JD(S), which is battling for survival in the state.
Welcoming Nitish’s statement, JD(S) sources told Express that in fact party supremo H D Deve Gowda is playing a crucial role in bringing all non-BJP and non-Congress parties together to provide an alternative choice in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Gowda has already held preliminary talks with SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, Left Front leader Prakash Karat and leaders of a few more regional parties in this regard. If all goes according to plan, the JD(S) will organise a convention of like-minded leaders in Bangalore in the third week of February, sources said. It may be recalled that one such conclave held at National College grounds eventually led to the formation of the National Front headed by VP Singh. Gowda has fond memories of the conclave and feels that the present political scenario in the country is conducive for repeating the feat.
