Following the overwhelming public response at the first mega Lok Adalat during which 95,178 cases were settled amicably across the state last November, Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) has decided to hold one more such Lok Adalat from Thursday to April 12.
In Karnataka, 12 lakh cases are pending, including 2.26 lakh cases in Bangalore city, one lakh in Belgaum district and 70,000 in Mysore district. The pendency is expected to be reduced as much as possible during the second Lok Adalat, said Karnataka High Court judge N K Patil.
At a press conference on Sunday, Justice Patil, also the Executive Chairman of KSLSA, said the National Legal Services Authority has decided to establish Village Legal Services Clinics (VLSC) in every taluk across the nation. “Like a doctor rendering health services in a PHC, a lawyer will provide legal services here,” he said.
Cases likely to be taken up are those in the following categories: criminal compoundable, motor vehicle accidents, matrimonial/family court, labour disputes, land acquisition, civil cases among others.
