Congress is unlikely to declare its prime ministerial candidate at the AICC session, scheduled to be held in Delhi this month.
Union information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari denied reports that party may declare Rahul as its prime ministerial candidate at the AICC session.
He said, “Ours is not a one-man centric political party.”
The party president Sonia Gandhi, will take a call on their prime ministerial candidate, he said.
Nilekani’s Role Lauded
The party acknowledges the Unique Identification Authority of India chairman Nandan Nilekani, as one of the game changers of modern India, he said.
“Nilekani’s contribution to modern India is unique and significant,” he added.
Welcoming Nilekani’s decision to take a plunge into electoral politics and contest from the party in the Lok Sabha election, he said the party’s leaders will decide whether or not to give him a ticket.
When asked about the rumours on the party asking Rahul Gandhi to contest from a constituency in the state, he pleaded ignorance on the matter.
Identity Crisis for Aadhaar Man Meanwhile, Nandan Nilekani was not allowed inside Palace Grounds on Saturday.
The incident happened around 1.30 pm, before the arrival of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to attend “Your Voice, Our Pledge”, programme.
Police and other security personnel stopped Nilekani from entering the venue. Nilekani had to call some insider.
Later, a volunteer came outside and escorted him.
