The State Government on Friday submitted before the High Court that an expert committee will prepare a list of differently-abled persons who are eligible to get government jobs. This follows directions from the Supreme Court.
The Advocate General submitted before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice B V Nagarathna that the government will submit details of the total number of jobs given to physically challenged candidates.
The Bench observed that the Supreme Court had given directions in October 2013 and directed that the government implement three per cent reservation for differently-abled persons in three months, but it has been four months since then. The Bench questioned the government as to why it had not identified posts for blind people, like the Central government had done. The bench directed the government to complete the list and submit it on the next date of hearing and adjourned the case.
The National Federation of the Blind appealed to the State government to give provisions for the differently-abled to apply for the posts of first and second division assistants under Karnataka Public Service Commission.
