BENGALURU: Vijayanagara BJP MLA Anand Singh has sent in his resignation letter to Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa.
Singh, a former minister, was arrested last week for his alleged role in the illegal export of iron ore from Belekeri port. The CBI had also earlier arrested Singh and other BJP MLAs in connection with the illegal mining export case.
A two-time MLA, Singh has also written to party president Prahlad Joshi thanking him for the opportunity to serve as an MLA and a minister. He has also thanked former chief ministers B S Yeddyurappa, D V Sadananda Gowda and Jagadish Shettar for making him a minister.
“I have decided to resign in the interest of the constituency, which would suffer without a representative as I cannot respond to the people’s problems from jail,” he said in a letter to Joshi, explaining his decision to quit.
