Market collapse in Mysuru:CM says govt will act on report

MYSURU: Two days after a portion of the century-old Devaraja market collapsed, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said the government would take a decision to renovate or completely demolish the market based on the expert committee’s report.

Speaking after inspecting the Lansdowne building and Devaraja market on Tuesday, he directed corporation authorities to get the shops vacated in the dilapidated structure and instructed them to make alternate arrangement for the evicted shopkeepers. Siddaramaiah said even the Congress office housed in Devaraja market should also be closed and shifted to a different location.

Conservation expert Prof Rangaraju met Siddaramaiah and apprised the reasons for partial collapse of the market. He stressed the need for government approving guidelines for conserving heritage structures, focus on conservation to uphold the heritage and cultural value of Mysuru city.
