Thousands remember Kalburgi on his death anniv

DHARWAD: Thousands of people, including writers, students and family members of scholar M M Kalburgi, took part in a march here on Tuesday to mark his first death anniversary.

People gathered at the residence of Kalburgi at Kalyan Nagar, the place where the writer was shot dead by two assailants.

The investigating agency is yet to make any headway into the murder. Protesting this, writers came under the banner of ‘Kalburgi, Dabholkar and Pansare Hattya Virodhi Horata Samiti’ and demanded speeding up of the investigation on the murders of all the three writers (Kalburgi, Dabholkar and Pansare). They took out a march braving the rain and joined the rally, which was led by the family members of Kalburgi, writer Chennaveera Kanavi and Minister Vinay Kulkarni.

Mukta Dabholkar, daughter of late Narendra Dabholkar, said until and unless the High Court shames the investigation team, it seems nothing will happen as it happened in the Dabholkar case.

“Every 15 days or the given time by the court, officers have to attend the court with some progress in the case. We will discuss with Kalburgi’s family members about the process to approach the High Court for justice,” she added.

Shrivijay Kalburgi, Kalburgi’s son, said those who have murdered a 70-year-old man are cowards. They tried to suppress the truth and facts, but they have failed.

“The murderers can suppress the truth. But the voice of those gathered here is the voice of Kalburgi. The ideas and thoughts of Kalburgi are still alive,” he added.
