BELAGAVI: The state government has taken several measures to boost the confidence of police personnel in the state, said said Home Minister Parameshwara here on Thursday.
Replying to Arun Shahapur and Mahantesh Kavatagimath (BJP) at the Council on suicides by police officers and harassment of lower grade personnel by higher officers, the minister said the personnel are being given a mandatory weekly off so that they can spend a day with their family. The government is also conducting monthly yoga classes for them, he added.

Parameshwara said the government is also thinking to appoint councillors in every district. He added that the government was also conducting sports meets and competitions among higher level officials with lower ranking personnel to establish cordial relations between them.
He added that the government has provided jobs  and free education to kin of those police personnel who committed suicide.

Parameshwara said there were over 25,000 vancancies in the Police Department and assured 19,600 posts would be filled  by the end of the year.
He said the number of police suicides was 11, 21 and 17 in 2014, 2015 and until October this year. The reason for the suicides varies from person to person  including personal reasons and harrassment by seniors, he added.
