CHIKKAMAGALURU: Five accused in the Manappuram Gold company theft which occurred on September 24 on the Mallandur Road in the city were arrested and gold jewellery and ingots, silver jewels and ingots, cash and four cars were recovered from them, said SP K Annamalai on Friday.

He said that a case was registered by the Manappuram Gold Loan branch manager at the city police station stating that some unknown  thieves had broken into the company security room through a hole on the roof on September 24 midnight and had decamped with 13.149 kg gold jewellery and cash of `8,14,644.
On information, city police station PSI K R  Raghu and his staff on November 24 nabbed one Wasim Pasha (29), a jewellery worker on MG Road and during interrogation, he revealed the names of the people who chalked out a plan to steal from the company.

On that basis, main accused Irfan (26) from Chikkamagaluru, Mukram (35) also from the city, Md Samiulla (22) from Mysuru, Md Haneef (28) and Salman (24) from the city were arrested by the city police. Of the accused, Wasim Pasha and and Md Haneef are in judicial custody. The remaining accused are at large.
Stating that Irfan has 15 cases against him, Annamaali said that Irfan and Mukram are brothers and he would recommend the former for punishment under the Goonda Act.The accused were traced on the basis of their modus operandi in the previous theft cases.
