BELAGAVI: Compared to the last six legislature sessions held here, the 10-day winter session that concluded on Saturday was satisfactory as it had discussed almost all the subjects it had proposed.

As there was demand from the people that issues related to north Karnataka be discussed for at least two days, both the Houses discussed for about 20 hours each on Mahadayi, sugarcane, drought, giving facilities to Hyderabad-Karnataka region under Article 371(J), etc. Unfortunately, both failed to take any concrete decision on any issue.

The assembly, which did not take up any scheduled topics on Saturday, conducted proceedings for 49 hours and 15 minutes in nine days. As many as 32 members took part in the 11 hour-34 minute discussion on drought and drinking water issue on November 24.

The House discussed the Mahadayi issue on linking Kalasa-Banduri canals to Malaprabha river to feed water to Hubballi-Dharwad and nearby towns for 11 hours and 37 minutes. The government responded to the debate on December 1.
