BENGALURU: Police personnel in the state have a reason to raise a toast this New Year with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announcing promotion for about 11,000 cops.

Siddaramaiah, who chaired a review meeting of the Home Department along with Home Minister G Parameshwara here on Wednesday, said the decision would benefit the lower rung of the police force the most, from constables to the rank of assistant sub-inspectors.

The development is a follow up of the recent decision to hike the salary of the policemen and improve their promotion opportunities.

The promotion letters would be issued without any delay, he added.

The government has also decided to recruit 26,702 police personnel in the next two years, set up five women police stations and take up work on construction of 4,200 houses for police personnel this year.

Siddaramaiah said Rs 5 crore has been released for the construction of a public school for children of police personnel in Davangere and upgradation of the public school in Mysuru.

CM warns cops against meddling in land disputes

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed serious concern over police personnel engaging in criminal activities and warned of stringent action against such black sheep in the department. “It is disturbing to see frequent media reports of police personnel engaged in illegal activities like running fake currency racket and mediating in real estate disputes. Such cases are rising in Bengaluru. This trend would be curbed. We are taking it seriously and such personnel would get stringent punishment,” Siddaramaiah said.

The chief minister instructed the police officers to crack down on criminals mercilessly and improve law and order situation in the state.
