The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has tied up with various e-wallet companies for customers to pay for LPG cylinders they have booked.

BENGALURU: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has tied up with various e-wallet companies for customers to pay for LPG cylinders they have booked.

The decision in this regard was recently communicated to all LPG distributors across the country asking them to consider wallet payments for supply of LPG cylinders.

Speaking to Express, Abjijith Dey, DGM IOC (LPG) for Karnataka, said, “We have received a communication from the Petroleum ministry, following which all LPG distributors were instructed to consider wallet payments for delivery of cylinders.”

Online payment was already available for booking of LPG cylinders. With the latest move, consumers can pay through e-wallets like Paytm, Mobikwik, Razorpay, Airtel Money etc.

“After the announcement of demonetisation on November 8, the ministry took this step towards cashless payments. We already have online payments for booking of LPG cylinders and now wallet payment too has been added. Customers can use the QR code when the agent drops the cylinder,” explained Abjijith Dey.

LPG distributors in the city are now planning to train their delivery boys about online/ digital payments.

“Normally, they would be collecting cash payments for LPG cylinders. Following the ministry directive, we are training our delivery boys to familiarise them with e-wallet payment and swipe machines,” said DS Krishna, proprietor of Vidyarthi gas agency.
