Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has instructed all universities in the state to make their campuses cashless by January 12.

BENGALURU: Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar has instructed all universities in the state to make their campuses cashless by January 12.

On Thursday, the minister conducted a meeting through video-conference with the heads/vice-chancellors of all universities in the state and education department officials on turning the campuses digital.

“The minister explained about the project and directed us to take necessary steps to go digital. We have already received communication from the University Grants Commission on this and now the minister has directed us,” said a university registrar who attended the meeting. During the conference, Javadekar insisted that varsity authorities involve the NCC and NSS units, and even ask students to launch a public awareness campaign in this regard, a vice-chancellor said. “We have also been asked to adopt a nearby market and make it digital,” the V-C added.

Javadekar has asked the university heads to conduct meeting with principals/heads of affiliated colleges and direct them to ensure that campuses are declared cashless by the set deadline. Varsities have to submit a report to the UGC and the ministry by January 15.
