Golden girl braves cyclonic Vardah to attend UoM convocation

The Alwar-born girl was in Chennai where her father is a Navy officer when Vardah struck the coastal city.

MYSURU: Neha Saran, who topped University of Mysore with 16 gold medals and four cash prizes for highest marks in MSc Chemistry, was not present at the convocation when her name was called out. 
She arrived at the venue late and immediately was called onto the dais to be given a bunch of medals. 

Neha said she had been stuck due to cyclone Vardah, which led to the delay. 

The Alwar-born girl was in Chennai where her father is a Navy officer when Vardah struck the coastal city. It was difficult for her to make it to the convocation given the unfavourable situation there but the gritty girl was not ready to give up and finally saw herself make it to the big event. 

Presently, she is undergoing training for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan (KVS) exam in Chennai and plans to do a PhD after that. 

After her schooling in Chennai and Goa, she did her degree from Regional Institute of Education (RIE) in Mysuru.  

Gurubasavalingaswamy, who bagged nine gold medals and two cash prizes in MA Sanskrit, said that he wants to study the manuscripts ‘as traditional Indian knowledge lies in it’. 
Gurubasavalingaswamy, who had already done MA in Economics, said he did masters in Sanskrit as without fair knowledge of the ancient language, he cannot study of manuscripts.

Vedavati, who got seven gold medals and four cash prizes, aspires to become a lecturer. Daughter of a farmer from Manchanahalli in Nagamangala taluk, she has passed SSLC, PUC and degree exams with flying colours amidst all odds.


As many as 24,363 students were awarded various degrees like UG, PG and PhD. 

Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar who was conferred with the Honorisa Causa degree along with Dalai Lama, said she was stunned when her name was chosen for the degree. She thanked the university for the recognition.

Governor Vajubhai Vala, higher education minister Basavaraj Rayareddy, vice-chancellor Prof. KS Rangappa, registrar R Rajanna were present.
