BENGALURU: Opposition leaders from BJP and JD(S) have accused CM Siddaramaiah of making futile attempts to protect H Y Meti before he resigned on Wednesday afternoon.

“Chief Minister knew about the CD and he tried to hush it up,” said former Chief Minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy. “The Siddaramaiah government has become a laughing stock with the entire state watching the video. It could have been avoided if the CM had sacked the minister when the controversy surfaced,” he said.

Kumaraswamy also accused the CM of almost closing the Lokayukta institution to protect corrupt ministers and officials. On Wednesday, the former CM had stated that two more ministers in the Siddaramaiah ministry will go soon.

BJP leader and leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa said Meti’s resignation is just the beginning as many more ministers are likely to follow suit. Even the CM will be in trouble if he fails to “wake up” now, he said. He also alleged that Siddaramaiah tried to protect Meti even after he came to know about the CD.

State BJP Yuva Morcha president and MP Prathap Simha said a case under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) be booked against Meti, who has misused his authority and exploited a woman who approached him seeking help.
