BENGALURU: With Friday being the last day to deposit demonetised currency notes, banks in the city didn’t experience the rush they were perhaps anticipating and people could exchange old notes relatively easily.
The Byatarayanapura branch of Canara Bank had a few customers during the day, and not all of them were there to deposit notes. Vikram V, who had come to deposit notes, said, “I didn’t have to wait at all, there was no queue.”

B M Manjunath, the branch’s senior manager, said almost all customers had already exchanged most of their demonetised notes and they had only been getting small amounts to deposit for the past few days.
It was the same case at the Mysore Road branch of Corporation Bank — there were no queues at the deposit counter. Ramachandra Bhat, the branch’s senior manager, said after December 22, the bank had never been crowded.
However, the St Mark’s Road branch of State Bank of India had considerably more number of depositors. But again, most people at the bank were there to withdraw money rather than to deposit. The line at the cash deposit machine on the premises of the same branch wasn’t too long either.
