Life convict arrested 12 hours after jailbreak from Kalaburagi Central jail

A convict facing life imprisonment for murder was re-arrested within 12 hours of his escape from the Kalaburagi Central Jail on Thursday night.

KALABURAGI: A convict facing life imprisonment for murder was re-arrested within 12 hours of his escape from the Kalaburagi Central Jail on Thursday night.

Speaking to Express, Kalaburagi SP Shashikumar said chief superintendent of Kalaburagi Central Jail M Somashekhar lodged a complaint at Fartabad Police station at 10.00 pm on Thursday that Mahesh Rao has escaped from the jail.

Mahesh was entrusted work on horticulture garden outside the Central Jail. He was taken out of the jail on Thursday morning as usual for work along with other 18 convicts. All the convicts returned to the main gate after the work at 5.30 pm. Mahesh told the jail officials that he wanted to go out to relieve himself.
As he did not return, the jail staff searched for him. Immediately, they reported the incident to the chief superintendent.

The jail staff and police started a search operation separately. As the jail staff had some clues about the convict’s possible hide-outs, a team was dispatched to Narayanpet of Mahbubnagar in Telangana which found Mahesh at his relative’s place.
