Land case hearing deferred

BENGALURU: The Supreme Court on Wednesday posted the hearing of a case related to dereservation of forest land, involving former chief ministers, to the second week of January.
However, the apex court directed the Chief Secretary to produce the cabinet notes and other related documents pertaining to the dereservation of forest land following the approval given in the cabinet meeting dated December 16, 2002. This was in response to the case filed by social activist T J Abraham, against the dereservation of 11,797 sqkm of forest land in Ballari district.
The apex court also ordered an investigation against former chief minister N Dharam Singh and other officials.
