HC stays FIR against UoM V-C

BENGALURU: The High Court on Thursday stayed the proceedings initiated against Prof K S Rangappa, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore, following an FIR registered against him.

Rangappa had challenged the FIR, which alleged irregularities in purchase of computers from IEM, a Thane-based institution, during his tenure as V-C of Karnataka State Open University. Justice Anand Byrareddy also ordered notice to Jayalakshmipuram police in Mysuru and complainant Dr A Khadar Pasha, financial officer of KSOU.

Rangappa was V-C of KSOU from December 11, 2009 to January 10, 2013. The police police had registered a case on August 19.

Rangappa’s counsel argued the complaint has not disclosed any information on the commission of a cognisable offence.

Supporters burst crackers

Rangappa’s supporters celebrated by bursting crackers in Mysuru.

Earlier in the day, members of the Dalit Students Federation, Researchers Association, Students Basava Balaga and Youth Progressive Thinkers Association said they would hold a Rajbhavan chalo protest demanding action against Rangappa.
