More properties to be demolished

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has identified 27 more illegal properties on stormwater drains in the city. With this, the total number of properties encroaching SWDs has now increased to 1,955. After the rains wreaked havoc in July, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed BBMP officials to demolish illegal constructions on SWDs. Following this, officials submitted a report to the CM identifying 1,928 illegal properties. “We have been carrying out demolition work for the last couple of weeks based on the report submitted by the Land Survey Department,” BBMP Chief Engineer (SWD) Siddegowda said. “More illegal properties will be identified in the coming days. We might require at least two to three months for the process,” he added.  A senior official said they are taking up demolition and construction of drain works simultaneously.
