Karnataka CM writes to Modi for intervention in Cauvery release to TN

BENGALURU: Expressing serious concern about the unrest that has erupted in the state following the Supreme Court order to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah has sought Prime Minister Modi's immediate intervention to resolve the impasse.

Siddaramaiah has in a 2 page letter written to Modi requested convening of meeting of the Chief Ministers of Cauvery basin states forthwith on a notice of few hours.

Drawing the attention of the Prime Minister to the Widespread unrest and Bundh in Cauvery basin in the state after Karnataka started implementing SC order to release 15000 cusecs of water on daily basis, Siddaramaiah has said that,  if it is continued it would completely deprive the drinking water to not only residents of Bengaluru, but also to farmers of Cauvery basin for their single crop.

The Chief Minister presented the contrasting picture in Tamil Nadu where he said the storage in Mettur dam and the North East monsoon rains would be more than sufficient to meet the requirements of water for Samba paddy crop just being sown or still to be sown.
